Ishbia was introduced during press conference at Footprint Center Wednesday morning.
Mat Ishbia, a 43-year-old billionaire from Michigan whose fortune was built from a mortgage financing business, was formally introduced as the new owner of the Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury franchises Wednesday morning during a press conference at Footprint Center.
“I look at it as a community asset. I’m not the owner of the Suns and the Mercury. I'm a steward of it,'' he said. “Hopefully it lasts, if we ever lost a game, I know we're 1-0,'' he said, referring to the team's record since he officially became owner on Tuesday. The Suns, currently traveling on an East Coast road swing, defeated Brooklyn 116-112 Tuesday night and next play Thursday at Atlanta.
