Authorities say the clerk tried to claim she had purchased the winning ticket worth $3 million.
BROCKTON, Massachusetts — A woman who was a clerk at a liquor store is facing criminal charges after prosecutors say she tried to cash a winning lottery ticket worth $3 million that a customer had accidentally left behind.
Carly Nunes, 23, of Lakeville, Mass., is charged with larceny from a building, attempted larceny, presentation of a false claim, and witness intimidation, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Plymouth District. A second person, Joseph Reddem, 32, of Manchester, N.H., is charged with attempted extortion.
Prosecutors say that on Jan. 17, the victim went to a liquor store in Lakeville and purchased a bag of potato chips, two Mega Millions tickets and two Mass Millions tickets. The victim then left but forgot his lottery to take his lottery tickets, authorities say.
