In a preview of X-Men Red 12, Jon Ironfire reveals his past, as Marvel's 'new Wolverine' claims a mystic sword and shares his shocking origin as one of X-Men's oldest heroes.
The mutant hero Jon Ironfire has officially entered X-Men canon, and now Marvel is revealing the backstory of its 'new Wolverine.' Ironfire was introduced in the now-defunct future timeline of Sins of Sinister, with powers notably similar to Wolverine. Ironfire is able to transmute his blood into any metal, which he can then control to create extrusions such as claws, horns, and quills, or even use to strengthen his skeleton by binding the metal to his bones.

For the first time, fans get to see Jon's relationship with the Omega-level mutant the White Sword, and learn some surprising facts about his past that redefine who the hero is.
Jon Ironfire's New Sword Is a God-Tier Mutant Weapon Purity is a legendary sword which debuted in the X of Swords event, but about which little is known, since White Sword fought mainly using his champions in that tournament. However, given it was wielded alongside swords such as the Muramasa Blade , the Soulsword , and Vermilion , it's all but guaranteed Purity has a unique ability that fans haven't seen - one which is now in Jon Ironfire's hands.
Jon Ironfire Is Even Older Than Wolverine In many ways, Jon Ironfire has taken the most iconic aspects of Wolverine and heightened them, as is appropriate for a mutant from the warrior society of Arakko. Where Wolverine has claws and adamantium-coated bones, Jon's powers give him the same, but with a level of control that adds many more applications - such as using his metal blood to interface with machinery.
The X-Men Will Need Their New Wolverine to Survive Usually, comic fans are resistant to this kind of one-upping of beloved characters, but Jon's life experiences make him so unique, it's clear Marvel is very deliberately playing with an established archetype, not just presenting a 'better' version of Wolverine.
