Martin O'Neill has been out of management since being sacked by Nottingham Forest in June 2019 but is now closing in on a return to the dugout with Rapid Bucharest
Former Nottingham Forest boss Martin O'Neill is reportedly on the brink of a surprising return to management at the age of 72.
Reports from Europe, led by Fanatik, suggest that O'Neill was thought to have retired from management before the opportunity with Bucharest arose. There are claims that the veteran manager, who has also led the Republic of Ireland national team and Aston Villa, could be in position by the end of the day.READ MORE: Forest notebook featuring survival pledge and transfer talk
O'Neill, who recently became the head of the League Managers Association, won two European Cups during his playing days with Nottingham Forest but was sacked after just six months in charge. "I had no idea when I left Forest that it would be my last job in management. I had turned it down a number of times previously and felt like I had to take it when it was offered again. I took it far too personally, in the sense I was angry about it. I took it too seriously.
