Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara announced Friday that he underwent Tommy John surgery and will not play in 2024.
Alcantara posted a social media message in English and Spanish to break the news to fans, thanking them for their support throughout a season that saw Miami earn a NL wild-card playoff berth. Alcantara went 7-12 with a 4.14 ERA in 28 starts in 2023. He tied for the major league lead in complete games with three, and he struck out 151 batters while walking 48.
