Mark Wahlberg says that he could see himself retiring from acting 'sooner rather than later.'
Actor Mark Wahlberg says that he sees himself retiring sooner rather than later. Wahlberg gained fame as the rapper Marky Mark, before starting his acting career. He spent the late 80s and early 90s as the leading man behind Marky Mark and The Funky Bunch, creating several successful songs like “Good Vibrations.” Wahlberg later switched his focus to acting, becoming known for his roles in movies like Planet of the Apes and Ted.
Lately, various other actors have made similar announcements that they’re stepping away from acting. Bruce Willis reported his retirement through his daughter, Rumer Willis, last month after sharing his aphasia diagnosis with his supporters. Similarly, Jim Carey told fans he’s done with acting now that Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is complete, choosing to keep a “quiet life” unless a particularly special role is able to coax him back into performing.
Sooner rather than later, probably ... It's got to be something special to really bring me, you know, to leave home, to leave those guys behind, because it's the biggest sacrifice in the making for sure. While he has taken short breaks, Wahlberg’s been acting consistently since the early 90s. Over the last few years, the actor has kept busy working back to back on several different projects, which likely eats away at his free time, keeping him away from his family. His current movie, Father Stu, is especially meaningful to the actor due to his Catholic faith, giving fans an idea of what kind of projects Wahlberg will be paying more attention to as his career moves forward.
Just like any job, it’s inevitable that someone would eventually want to retire, although given that Wahlberg is only 50 years old, it does come earlier than expected. Despite considering retirement, Wahlberg has several upcoming projects. Currently, the actor is filming Our Man from Jersey and is awaiting to begin production on The Six Billion Dollar Man. With this in mind, it doesn’t seem like Wahlberg is saying a firm goodbye to acting just yet, but certainly has plans to in the future.
