The Maritime Museum of BC is pitching a new museum in Victoria’s iconic Inner Harbour, in partnership with the Esquimalt and Songhees First Nations.
“The idea behind the project is to present a more comprehensive account of Victoria’s history, where the narratives of Lekwungen and settler experiences stand side-by-side,” said the museum in a release on Thursday. The new museum is proposed for the Steamship Building, across the street from the B.C. Legislature, with an estimated $38 million for construction.
The historic Steamship Building, located at 470 Belleville St., and its associated water lease are owned by the provincial government.
