Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT With Margot Robbie's Pirates of the Caribbean movie getting a major update, the spinoff looks closer than ever; however, it already faces one huge challenge. Robbie's Pirates of the Caribbean spinoff has been in development since 2020, but despite the actress' positive career trajectory, the project hasn't been given the green light.
Hodson's writing and Robbie's acting weren't a huge problem, but the lack of financial impact is worrying heading into their Pirates of the Caribbean movie. With Margot Robbie potentially replacing Johnny Depp's Jack Sparrow, she may once again play a charismatic and unpredictable character, just like she did with Harley Quinn in Birds of Prey.
Outside of Harley Quinn, none of the film's characters appeared in the DCEU again other than Robbie's character. This makes it unclear as to what happened after Birds of Prey since Quinn's next appearance came in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad, which was the start of a soft reboot. With Pirates of the Caribbean's last film coming in 2017, the franchise also lacks direction as the four-year development of Robbie's spinoff proves.
