It’s Mitch Marner who should get the DeRozan/Huberdeau treatment. Like DeRozan, Marner is a homegrown, ultra-elite offensive player. But like DeRozan, he’s shrunk in too many big moments. And he never seems willing to take any blame or admit to his failings. The Leafs need a top player who can force his will on opponents. Matthews, Marner and Nylander don’t do that. One of them must go to get someone like that or even an excellent No. 2 or an average No. 1 defenceman. Marner is the best option to get that guy.
