Proposals are being considered for a new high-speed southeastern railway linking Raleigh, North Carolina, to Atlanta and then to Nashville and Orlando.The proposal has been drawn up by the Southeast Corridor Commission , which incorporates members from seven state transportation departments as well as the District of Columbia and is backed by the High Speed Rail Alliance campaign group.
The post-basic plans were two slight variants of a proposal that would see trains travel at a maximum of 125 miles per hour between Atlanta, Georgia, and Raleigh, stopping off at Charlotte, North Carolina, before moving through Richmond, Virginia, to Washington, D.C., at either 110 or 90 miles per hour, as shown in the above map.
