Manslaughter suspect was lured to drug house believing he was meeting young woman, court hears yyc

Witness Nyaruch Deng testified alleged homicide victim Mayiel Deng Kiir, whom she was dating at the time, used her Snapchat to convince Liong to come to the home. But instead of being greeted by Deng and possibly hooking up with her, Liong was immediately assaulted and then restrained over a $30,000 drug debt.

Liong is charged with manslaughter in connection with Kiir’s July 24, 2021, death following an altercation between the two men at a 42 Avenue N.E. home., Crown prosecutor Tom Buglas will argue Liong’s actions in choking Kiir during the altercation contributed to the death. Deng testified Kiir was a drug dealer with a reputation for violence. She agreed with defence counsel Rebecca Snukal that her boyfriend had kidnapped another man earlier — a person she later learned was Liong’s brother, Cairo.

She told Snukal she believed Kiir, whom she called MK, wanted to talk to Liong, but also suspected the deceased could become violent in the encounter.Advertisement 3“I don’t think it was a real gun,” the witness said.“I did, but I knew it was fake so I didn’t think anything could happen with it,” Deng said. She said at one point during the incident while she was present, Liong was bleeding, may have been cut on the face by Kiir and had a pillow case put over his head.
