A man who murdered his wife and fiancee could now one day walk free after successfully appealing against his whole life order.

Ian Stewart killed 51-year-old children’s author Helen Bailey in 2016 and was found guilty of her murder the following year. He was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 34 years, and then he was investigated over the death of his first wife Stewart, 47, in 2010. In February he was found guilty of murder for a second time and was given a rare whole life sentence.

The double-murderer’s appeal was reviewed by five judges, who decided that he must now serve a minimum term of 35 years instead.
