A woman was struck in the face with a firearm and a man was shot when he tried to come to her aid during a robbery in the Fruitvale district early Monday.
OAKLAND — A man trying to aid a woman being robbed in the Fruitvale district early Monday was shot by one of the suspects, authorities said.
When the woman resisted, she was pistol-whipped, and the suspects were able to take her purse, authorities said The shooting activated a gunshot detection system. When police got to the scene they found some cars and buildings that had been hit by gunfire but no victim.
