They are man’s best friend. They are also a great asset in securing the Super Bowl in Miami on Sunday.
The dogs have specialized training for 25 weeks just outside of Washington, D.C. In Babs’ case, she was a guide dog but then trained with ATF and is now part of the agency’s SEEK program, which trains dogs to sniff out explosives and shell casings.
“Very often shootings occur in very high grass or shrubs and shell casings quickly blend into those areas that are very difficult for crime scene technicians to find,” Cekada said. He added they are ‘crucial’ to help with the investigation.Miami ATF Special Agent in Charge Robert Cekada speaks during an interview with ABC News.Not only are the dogs trained to help investigate shootings, but they are also able to locate IEDs and other explosives, one of their main jobs in securing the big game.
Cekada said that on Sunday, law enforcement would be prepared for any challenge having planned for almost 16 months.
