THUNDER BAY — After a several delays, the man accused of sexually assaulting several youth in the 1970s and 80s in the city’s East End is standing trial.
The incidents are alleged to have occurred between 1976 and 1982 and involved several victims between the ages of six and 14. A fitness assessment was ordered and Gilberds was deemed fit to stand trial. In an effort to ensure the case moves ahead to trial, Brochu ordered a motion appointing a lawyer to assist the court in legal submissions during the trial.
