An 18-year-old man has vanished after falling through the ice on a lake in British Columbia's central Interior. The Salmon Arm RCMP received a call around 2 p.m. Saturday reporting a man who had gone through the ice on Shuswap Lake . Firefighters and paramedics responded to the scene but were unable to locate the missing man. The RCMP's underwater recovery team has been deployed to assist in the search, and no further details about the incident have been released at this time.
Police are urging residents to avoid walking on local lake surfaces despite recent cold weather. Anyone engaging in activities near icy bodies of water is advised to exercise extreme caution. Environment Canada reported that temperatures in Salmon Arm, approximately 460 kilometers northeast of Vancouver, reached a high of -6 degrees Celsius on Saturday, plummeting to as low as -21 degrees Celsius today
