A Cleveland man is accused of kidnapping an acquaintance he’d hired for a plumbing job, holding him for ransom and firing shots at him as he escaped.

Johnson, also known as “Cuba,” hired a 52-year-old man to work on renovations to his home in the city’s Buckeye-Woodhill neighborhood, according to a police report. The two men knew each other during a stint in federal prison, the report said. The robbers blindfolded the man, bound him with zip ties and covered his mouth with duct tape, according to police and court records. They forced him into the back of his own van and sped away, the police report said.
