A man has been crushed and killed by a shipping container while on a work site in Sydney's south-east, NSW Ambulance says.

Emergency services were called to Bumborah Point Road about 10.30am on Wednesday following reports that man had been injured at the workspace in Port Botany. Five ambulance crews and a medical retrieval unit were called to the scene. Police say the man was believed to have been in his 50s."CPR was given by bystanders,;this was taken over by specialist paramedics but unfortunately the patient could not be revived,” Inspector Darren Hull said.
