In November 1971, Lafrance was sentenced to life in prison for the axe-slayings of a six-year-old resident of what was then Alice Township, as well as the boy’s uncle, in March of that same year. At trial, Lafrance entered a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity. A 12-man jury took less than half an hour to convict him as charged.
