Canada Border Services Agency arrested the man after finding information he had entered Canada and ‘may be inadmissible’

An Indiana man seeking political asylum after being convicted for his role in the 2021 U.S. Capitol riot has been arrested by Canadian border agents while snowboarding in Whistler.

In the days leading up to his arrest, Mr. Vo gave interviews to local media outlets explaining how he had fled to Canada rather than report to a federal prison on June 14, where he was sentenced to nine months after being found guilty of entering and engaging in disruptive conduct on restricted building grounds. He was also convicted of violent entry or disorderly conduct and demonstrating in a Capitol building., said Mr.

Oluwadamilola Asuni, a Saskatchewan-based immigration lawyer representing Mr. Vo, said he believes his client was arrested because he failed to attend a recent interview in Vancouver with the CBSA. He said the two days’ notice Mr. Vo was given was not enough, in part because his client is also dealing with death threats made over social media.
