A 40-year-old man is facing a multitude of charges after allegedly engaging in months of sexual trafficking and assault against a woman in Burlington and the Greater Toronto Area . Halton Regional Police Service initiated an investigation in early January following reports that a woman was a victim of human trafficking.
Through a thorough investigation conducted by the human trafficking unit, authorities revealed that the suspect allegedly inflicted physical and sexual abuse upon the woman, subjecting her to coercion, control, and exploitation within the sex trade. It is believed that these heinous acts persisted for approximately 10 months. On Monday, officers formally charged Michael Mazza, who has no fixed address, with a range of offenses. These include trafficking in persons, sexual assault causing bodily harm (choking), fraud exceeding $5,000, and two counts of assault. It is crucial to note that these charges remain unproven in court. Concerned by the possibility of additional victims linked to this investigation, Halton police are fervently urging anyone who perceives themselves or others in imminent danger of being trafficked to promptly contact emergency services at 9-1-1 and the Canadian Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-833-900-1010. Furthermore, the human trafficking unit encourages individuals with any pertinent information to reach out to them or Crime Stoppers anonymously
