Authorities were notified about unauthorized ATM withdrawals and other transactions that showed up on the fire department’s bank statements.
WPXIInvestigators discovered multiple ATM withdrawals from the banking account. High-ranking members of the departments also confirmed no withdrawals should have occurred, especially large amounts.
Investigators then issued a warrant for surveillance footage and information from PNC Bank in Natrona Heights. Statements from 2015 through 2022 were reviewed and found out the withdrawals and fees added up to be $142,208.26. William George, 66, the treasurer at the fire department, was seen via surveillance footage making withdrawals. Investigators also discovered a tax payment of $4,977.39 and a fee of $124.43 on Geroge’s home,George had been the treasurer for a decade. Now he’s charged with “theft by unlawful taking and other reason access device is unauthorized by the issuer,” the news outlet reported.
