On Wednesday, Saanich Police announced the arrest and conviction of a man for fraud after he scammed Facebook Marketplace shoppers out of thousands of dollars in the Greater Victoria area in 2021.
A Facebook privacy tab is displayed on a computer screen showing a Facebook Help Centre page in Ottawa on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2024.
Potential buyers then contacted Woods through Facebook Marketplace and paid deposits for the anticipated shed and planter box he’d promised to build, but never completed, police say. According to BBB, despite promises from Woods that he would pay consumers back by taking out a loan, the customers never received their deposit.
