Drake Kerr is facing second-degree murder charges in connection with a fatal shooting in Mackenzie, B.C. A preliminary inquiry is scheduled for June 2025 to determine if there is enough evidence for a trial. Kerr is also awaiting sentencing for a firearm offence.

The preliminary inquiry into the charges is scheduled for June 10-13, 2025 in Prince George Law Courts. Preliminary inquiries are hearings which examine the evidence in a case in order to determine if there is sufficient evidence to proceed with a trial in serious criminal cases. Kerr has another court date on Feb. 13, 2025 as he faces sentencing after entering a guilty plea for the offence of careless use or storage of a firearm in relation to an incident on Dec. 21, 2022 in Mackenzie. At the time, Kerr was charged with multiple firearms-related offences including pointing a firearm, uttering a threat, and possession of restricted or prohibited firearms. He entered a guilty plea for the one charge of careless use or storage of a firearm.
He had been released on an undertaking to appear in court prior to a shooting in Mackenzie on Sept. 29, 2024 and resulted in the death of one man from Fort St. James. RCMP investigators were searching for Kerr starting on Oct. 1, 2024 in relation to the shooting death and arrested him on the weekend of Oct. 5, 2024.
