Man arrested at border in connection with San Ysidro stabbing death [Breaking]
A 32-year-old man was arrested Wednesday in connection with the fatal stabbing of a man in San Ysidro earlier the same day, San Diego police said.
Hector Alcantara, of San Diego, was detained by Border Patrol around 1:30 p.m. at the San Ysidro Point of Entry, police Lt. Steve Shebloski said in a news release Thursday. He was booked into San Diego County jail on suspicion of murder, police said. According to police, the stabbing happened in a vacant building on Center Street near East Beyer Boulevard.The victim was with a group of people at the vacant building when he was stabbed by the attacker “without provocation,” police said. He then walked to a nearby gas station, where people there found him and called police around 2:20 a.m.
When officers arrived, they found a man, suffering from a stab wound to his upper body. He was taken to a hospital, where he died.Detectives identified the suspect in the stabbing as Alcantara and learned he likely fled to Mexico, Shebloski said in the news release. On Wednesday afternoon, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers notified San Diego police detectives that they had detained Alcantara at the San Ysidro Port of Entry pedestrian gate.
