Paul Tregear says he was attacked when trying to warn his neighbours of a black bear possibly on their property, with a loaded rifle.
.
He took the stand Friday, Nov. 15 saying he was the one attacked, and doesn’t know how his neighbour was shot in the stomach. Tregear says he didn’t announce himself, startling his neighbour Tony Nelson, who saw him carrying a gun and started attacking him, or as Crown put it, beating him “to a pulp.”
Upon arrest, police asked what his name was. On the second instance, Tregear responded “I’m the guy you’re looking for.”Crown prosecutor Sofia Green then went on to ask who chambered the round, or racked the rifle, and then shot his neighbour Anthony Nelson in the stomach.Tregear also denies having an unfriendly relationship with his neighbours before the shooting.
