For the cake batter, into a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, nutmeg, and salt. In a large measuring cup, whisk together the egg whites, buttermilk, vanilla extract, and almond extract. Scrape the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, 40 to 45 minutes. Set the pan on a wire rack to cool for 30 minutes.
