A male is dead after an overnight fire inside a Scarborough restaurant, near Kennedy Road and Lawrence Avenue E., Toronto police say.

The Ontario Office of the Fire Marshal has also been called to investigate after an overnight fire inside a Scarborough restaurant left one person dead. A male is dead after an overnight fire inside a Scarborough restaurant, Toronto police say. Emergency crews were called to a restaurant near Kennedy Road and Lawrence Avenue E., shortly before 1:50 a.m. for reports of a fire in a commercial building.
When crews arrived on scene and entered the building for search and rescue operations, they located one person inside the building, Toronto Fire Chief Matthew Pegg said. The male victim was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. His age has not been released by officials. "On behalf of Toronto Fire, I extend condolences to family, friends and all those impacted by this fatal fire," Pegg said in a post on X.Pegg said officials will remain on scene Saturday as an investigation into the origin, cause and circumstances of the fire is now underway.
