Most members of parliament supported the amendment to the Constitution of Malaysia that requires applicants for citizenship to demonstrate sufficient knowledge of the Malay language. The proposed amendment, part of the Constitutional (Amendment) Bill 2024, aims to revise Article 15(1) of the Federal Constitution concerning citizenship by registration (for spouses and children of citizens) by adding a clause stating that applicants must possess adequate knowledge of the Malay language.
