On April 13, Michael Joseph Gallant, 34, pleaded guilty to public mischief for falsely reporting that an offence was committed and causing a police officer to enter into, or continue, an investigation. Gallant also pleaded guilty to missing a court appearance. - SaltWire fileCHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Repeatedly making 911 calls and falsely reporting that someone was inside his residence has not resulted in jail time for a Charlottetown man.

Crown attorney Jeff MacDonald told the court that between Feb. 4 and Feb. 19, 911 calls were made by Gallant 11 times reporting that there were people inside his residence. Charlottetown police responded multiple times, and each time didn't find anyone. On Feb. 19, Gallant locked the front door of his apartment building, which prevented other tenants from entering. After speaking to police, Gallant unlocked the door.

Gallant was arrested for public mischief and released on conditions, including that he attend court when required. But on March 23, he failed to attend a court appearance. Police responded and spoke to Gallant, who was living at a different residence. He told police again that someone was breaking into his residence. And once again, police investigated and didn't find signs of forced entry or anyone inside.Gallant has one offence on his criminal record from 2008 for failing to stop at the scene of an accident in New Brunswick.MacDonald noted that the offences were motivated by addictions and mental health issues.
