The strongest support for Ukraine comes from those aged 55 and older, with 83 per cent supporting Ukraine; support is lowest among those 18 to 34, at 58 per cent. There is modest variation between regions. In British Columbia, 73 per cent support Ukraine, in Alberta, 67 per cent, in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, 79 per cent.
However, only 33 per cent believe Canada should provide more personnel to train Ukrainian soldiers and just 32 per cent believe more military equipment should be provided. There is some regional and age variation in these attitudes. Broadly speaking, support for taking any action is highest among those aged 55 and older, across all categories; for example, 61 per cent of those 55 or older believe Canada should do more to seize Russian assets. This view is held by just 30 per cent of those between the age of 18 and 34.Article content
Again, there are some age variations here, perhaps because older Canadians are more likely to remember the days of the Soviet Union or Russia’s more recent imperial adventures in Georgia. Seventy-eight per cent of those aged 55 and older believe this is just the beginning, compared to 54 per cent of those 18 to 34 and 63 per cent of those between the ages of 35 and 54.
