A major egg recall has been issued in British Columbia due to concerns about potential salmonella contamination. The recall affects several popular brands of eggs, including Golden Valley, Compliments, Foremost, IGA, No Name, and Western Family, sold in various sizes and package quantities. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency ( CFIA ) issued the recall after a positive salmonella test was found at one of the egg farms supplying these brands.
The increased demand for eggs during the holiday season, coupled with the impact of avian influenza, led to the importation of eggs from other parts of Canada. Unfortunately, one of these farms was subsequently identified as having a salmonella presence. The CFIA emphasizes that food contaminated with salmonella may appear normal and lack any noticeable spoilage, but it can still pose a serious health risk.Young children, pregnant women, older individuals, and those with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to salmonella poisoning. Symptoms of infection include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. The CFIA urges consumers who have purchased eggs from these brands to carefully examine their lot numbers to determine if their products are included in the recall. Those with affected eggs are advised to discard them immediately
