The US Geological Survey reported the quake's epicenter 130 miles south-southwest of George Town, Cayman Islands, with a depth of 10 kilometers. While the US National Tsunami Warning Center issued no alert for the mainland US, advisories were issued for Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. Other nations, including the Dominican Republic, Honduras, and Cuba, also issued alerts urging coastal residents to move inland and away from beaches.
