Earthquakes Canada says quake was ‘lightly felt’ on Vancouver Island, but it hadn’t received any reports of damage
Two earthquakes in as many days have rumbled off the west coast of Vancouver Island.
Earthquakes Canada says a magnitude 4.8 quake was recorded 34 kilometres from Tofino, B.C., shortly before 8 p.m. Friday. The agency says the quake was “lightly felt” on Vancouver Island, but it hadn’t received any reports of damage. B.C.’s minister of land, water and resource stewardship, Josie Osborne, posted on Twitter saying she felt the quake in Tofino, where the “whole house shuddered.”
Friday’s quake followed a smaller, magnitude 4.0 quake recorded 288 kilometres off the coast of Tofino shortly after 5 a.m. on Thursday.
