A dozen manufacturing development projects with artificial intelligence at their core are moving ahead with $19 million in backing from Next Generation Manufacturing Canada .
The federally funded innovation organization announced the 12 projects selected for its AI for Manufacturing Challenge on Nov. 7. Big-name auto parts suppliers such as Magna International Inc. and Linamar Corp. feature prominently. The collaborative scale-up project focused on the automotive, health care and building industries, are helping homegrown AI providers “close the gap to commercial success, said NGen CEO Jayson Myers.
“By connecting our leading-edge technology firms to our domestic manufacturing base, NGen is helping to develop a suite of unique solutions that will have tremendous commercial potential in global markets,” he said in a release. The $19 million in federal funding will spur company investments of about $36 million, with the dozen projects worth a cumulative $55 million.
