The Confederation Line system has been shut down since July 17 after excess grease was found on the axle of one light rail vehicle.
In an update on a shutdown that began July 17, Renée Amilcar said a risk assessment that began last Saturday should be wrapped up by Friday.After that, the Rideau Transit Group , which maintains the system, will be able to start repositioning restraining rails on the 16 curves on the Confederation Line.
The risk assessment is crucial to protect the vehicles and rail infrastructure, Amilcar said. RTG has hired Atkins, a design, engineering and consultancy firm affiliated with Montreal-based SNC-Lavalin, which is expanding the Trillium Line.Article content The city and RTG will look at Atkins’ independent recommendations to understand the consequences for the operation and maintenance of Ottawa’s light rail system. The city has had daily meetings with Atkins, Holder said.
Coun. Glen Gower, the city’s transit commission chair, said he knew that people had been changing their plans because the trains had been out of service. He said he had been speaking to Mayor Mark Sutcliffe and his council colleagues, but numbers were still needed for all costs associated with reimbursing users.
