It would seem the notorious turn six of the Formula One Monaco Grand Prix race track, the Grand Hotel Hairpin, is too much for the. Multiple angles of video captured on Saturday show an Ami rolling over on the public street used for F1 races in a clear-cut case of winning stupid prizes for playing stupid games. Fortunately, it appears nobody was seriously injured in the stunt—particularly given how pedestrians were caught in the wayward Citroën's path.
In some parts of Europe, an individual as young as 14 years old can buy and pilot a Citroën Ami, even without a license. The car-or-quadricycle comes with 8 horsepower and has a top speed around 28 mph, so it's not the most threatening vehicle to approach. But that sense of slowness may have been too tempting to challenge for the occupants of the Ami you see crashing in the videos featured above and below.
The report describes the driver as an"inexperienced" French resident, who was driving the Ami with a 16-year-old passenger at the time of the crash. Both occupants were transferred to the hospital with minor injuries. Evidently, it only took four firefighters to flip the Ami back over. While it seems this incident is raising eyebrows in Europe, where the Ami is sold as, essentially, a scooter alternative, skirting normal vehicle safety regulations and even licensing requirements, it should be noted that the driver appears to really be hammering on the Citroën, which in earlier clips of it climbing the same corner leans precipitously on its skinny tires.
