Q: After 30 years working in entertainment, this is your first play. Why this play and why now?Because the Vancouver Asian Canadian Theatre forced me to write a play. Kidding aside, it was just the right time. It was right before the pandemic and they have what’s called the MSG Lab. It’s very nurturing of playwrights. I was friends with one of the one of the people running that program and she arm-twisted me into submitting a story. I realized that this was a great opportunity.
and then being here in Canada, I’ve always been drawn thematically to bridging the East and the West. Keaton and Joe both have relationship issues, with one pretending that other people don’t matter and the other pretending that they themselves don’t matter. And so I decided to take two extreme characters and have them somehow find a balance to help each other out in life.Article contentIn Asia there is a tendency to make love either melodramatic or non-existent.
