The 2018 reboot of the iconic Tom Selleck series, which stars Jay Hernandez as Hawaii-based private investigator Thomas Magnum, has a complicated history on the air. Its first four seasons aired on CBS before being picked up by NBC for a fifth season, the second part of which is set to premiere on October 4.
Per TVLine, those missing seasons have finally made their way onto streaming just over a month ahead of the Magnum P.I. season 5 part 2 release. Seasons 1 through 4 will arrive on the Amazon-owned Freevee on September 1. However, Peacock will remain the home for season 5, meaning the show will be split between the CBS and NBC seasons.
What is the Future of Magnum P.I.? Currently, the future of Magnum P.I. is up in the air. While ten more episodes of season 5 are making their way to the screen this Fall, there has been no order for more episodes. While it has not been outright canceled, this decision was likely delayed by the ongoing strikes, which have halted work on productions as the Writers Guild of America and the Screen Actors Guild fight for fair pay from the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers .
One thing that could potentially convince producers to eventually renew Magnum P.I. is strong streaming numbers for the missing seasons. However, that doesn't necessarily seem likely, as Freevee has yet to find a strong footing in the streaming arena. While they scored a hit with their comic reality series Jury Duty, the show's presence on that particular platform may not boost its popularity enough for season 6 to be in the cards.
