. All those layers of features that you can only access through a screen mean manufacturers are putting their convenience and cost-savings over the safe operation of the vehicle. This compared to 11.9% of drivers admitting to driving after drinking any amount of alcohol the same year, and 7.5% who drove while over the legal limit.”Article contentI don’t disagree with Mr. Musk over at Tesla that fully automated driving cars would save many, many lives; people are terrible drivers.

We need to be having more conversations about what increasingly heavy EVs mean to the safety of pedestrians, cyclists, and lighter vehicles. We failed miserably at this conversation about growing pickups and SUVs, and continue to pretend that cameras and sensors are adequate band-aids for driversYou’d think that with all the information available to us, we’d consider the impact of what we create before the fact instead of after the preventable human cost.
