Not only does this call into question the prime minister’s truthfulness on the many occasions since this scandal broke when he claimed to have been as surprised as anyone that WE was paying his mom, brother and wife to make appearances at WE events. His remarks also reveal he knew there would be ethical questions about the suitability of his government giving such a large, sole-source contract to WE when he and his kin were up to their eyeballs in WE connections.
And here I think is the crux of what’s the matter with the WE deal: The obvious never seemed to have occurred to the PM, his staff, the senior civil service or any member of the cabinet because they share the same “progressive,” elitist self-impression.
