Karolina Redden of Middle Sackville successfully completed the 20-week program in late July. The Polish immigrant moved to Canada in 2012 for her job but was laid off as a result of the pandemic. As an adult learner with a child, returning to school in a traditional format was simply not an option. “They definitely helped combat the barriers which the tech industry was imposing for years for people like me,” Redden says. “For me, that was like a breath of fresh air. Back in Poland, I probably would have had to go through a few years of technical university in order to be taken seriously by any company. The times have changed and people can take expedited paths to become a developer and be successful.
“The program opens doors to opportunities that a few years ago would not be possible. In this industry, all training and courses taken is always just the beginning of the journey. With persistence and hard work, you can be successful and have a career you have always dreamed of,’’ she says. While alternate programs may not be as robust as a university program, they offer opportunity to a wider audience who cannot access traditional universities.
