A political warhorse with a hide of Teflon, Marchy Bruni is the Sault's longest-serving councillor
Sault Ste. Marie political warhorse Marchy Bruni filed nomination papers Monday for a fifth term on city council. A 16-year veteran of municipal politics, Bruni is the longest-serving local councillor.
He has served on four previous councils: 2010 to 2014, 2014 to 2018, 2018 to 2022, and 2022 to 2026. Bruni's LinkedIn page shows he's been an employee of Ontario and Gaming Corp. for 35 years, most recently as a records management specialist. He's demonstrated a Teflon-like ability to bounce back from political adversity.
In 2015, Bruni stepped down as chair of Algoma Public Health at the request of Ontario Health Minister Eric Hoskins, after revelation that the health unit's finances were being managed by Shaun Rootenberg, who once did time at Beaver Creek Institution in Gravenhurst after pleading guilty to multiple counts of fraud involving more than $2 million. Three years later, Bruni nonetheless won re-election to city council, placing second among four candidates in his ward..
This year's municipal election will take place on Oct. 26. Bruni is one of 11 candidates who've entered races since nominations were first accepted last week.
