Look-alike contests are gaining popularity, with social media buzzing about their growing numbers, unusual prizes, and celebrity subjects. A recent contest for Timothée Chalamet look-alikes in NYC attracted hundreds, including a surprise appearance by Chalamet himself. Meanwhile, a Drake look-alike contest in Toronto offered a $10,000 prize donated by the rapper himself.
A group of hopeful Timothée Chalamet look-alikes gathered in New York City in October 2024. Think you just had a celebrity sighting? Think again.A look-alike contest is exactly what it sounds like: people compete to see who looks the most like the chosen subject.
While look-alike contests are not a new phenomenon, the growing number of them, celebrity subjects and unusual prizes have become popular discussion topics on social media. Miles Mitchell, left, was declared ‘Best Tim’ at a Timothée Chalamet look-alike contest. His look was inspired by the real Chalamet’s character in the movie Wonka. The contest, which advertised a $50 US prize for the “Best Tim,” had a turnout in the hundreds, including the actual Timothée Chalamet, who made a surprise appearance at the event.
The winner, Makayla Chambers, told CBC News she had planned to enter the contest before knowing money was involved, and was excited to have won and planned to spend her winnings on clothes and food.
