GENTING HIGHLANDS: It had taken until the semi-finals but Chen Tang Jie finally saw action in the Senheng RedOne Purple League Professional.
The national mixed doubles shuttler proved that it was worth the wait when he combined superbly with independent player Lai Pei Jing to propel Petaling Badminton Club to the final after sweeping aside Sena Bangkok Club’s Yap Qar Siong-Atitaya Povanon 11-4, 11-6, 11-4 at the Arena of Stars.
But after talks between national doubles coaching director Rexy Mainaky and Petaling’s team manager Wong Ah Jit, Tang Jie was cleared to participate.“I wasn’t sure if I could play or not at first. But coach Rexy and the Petaling team manager had discussions and I was given the green light to play in the end. So, I’m thankful to both of them for giving me this opportunity.”
