, Lone Star College-CyFair is hosting a dance demonstration and Q&A for their students and the surrounding community, putting the focus on the progression of African Diaspora dance to the Houston two-step.

“The African diaspora of dance encompasses a wide range of dance styles and practices that have been developed and evolved over centuries by the descendants of African people around the world,” she said. “Through these dances, members of the African diaspora can communicate and celebrate their cultural heritage and history.”

The African diaspora of dance influenced many dances and dance styles across the world, such as Zydeco and stepping within Black Greek organizations, like fraternities and sororities.“Through intricate footwork, rhythmic stomping, and synchronized movements, stepping allows members of Greek organizations to celebrate their shared heritage and history and to communicate their values and ideals to the wider community,” Harris said.
