St. Louis Blues defenseman Logan Mailloux left Saturday's preseason game against the Chicago Blackhawks with an injury and will not return.
St. Louis Blues defenseman Logan Mailloux exited Saturday's preseason game against the Chicago Blackhawks and will not return, the team announced. The injury occurred after Mailloux fought Blackhawks forward Cole Smith in the first period.
The fight was in retaliation for Smith tripping Blues defenseman Philip Broberg. It is unclear exactly when or how Mailloux picked up the injury.
Blues Lose Key Defenseman to Injury
If the Belle River, Ontario native is forced to miss the start of the regular season, it would be a significant loss for the Blues. Mailloux figures to play a top-four role on St. Louis' blueline.
Mailloux was acquired by the Blues in July of 2025 in exchange for forward Zachary Bolduc. The trade brought the young defenseman to St. Louis with high expectations.
Mailloux's Path to the Blues
Initially selected 31st overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, Mailloux finished his junior career with the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). In his final junior campaign of 2022-23, he notched 25 goals and 28 assists for 53 points in 59 games. He then contributed eight goals and 16 assists for 24 points in London's 21 playoff games.
In his first two professional seasons as part of the Canadiens' organization, Mailloux played in a total of eight NHL games, registering two goals and three assists for five points. In 135 combined games for Montreal's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate Laval Rocket, Mailloux totalled 26 goals and 54 assists for 80 points.
Impact on St. Louis Blue Line
The Blues were counting on Mailloux to take on a top-four role this season. His potential absence would leave a hole on the right side of the defense.
The team has not provided a timeline for his return. More updates are expected after further evaluation.
