Playing in the World Junior Hockey Championship has always been a dream for Rémi Gagné, the captain of the Hawkesbury Hawks — and soon, that dream will partly come true.The Hawkesbury Hawks were chosen to play in a pre-tournament game against Team Kazakhstan ahead of the World Juniors Ice Hockey Championships starting December 26, 2024.
"Right away, I piped up said, 'Hey, we'll do it here in Hawkesbury, we'd be excited to do it!'" Hawks coach Ryan Leonard said. "It's completely different compared to Kazakhstan, because not that popular," he said. " they came to our practices just to watch us." "This is gonna be something that doesn't come back anytime soon, so it's a great opportunity for our citizens to come out and see some awesome hockey," Randell said.Carleton Place Mayor Toby Randell plans to attend Saturday's game in Hawkesbury, where he said he'll be cheering for Team Kazakhstan.
