Trump attorney Joe Tacopina says the defense may ask Merchan for a brief recess if the district attorney's office provides a copy of the indictment when the former president and his team arrive at the building. That would afford Trump's lawyers at least some time to review the paperwork before the arraignment, Tacopina said.
Should such a request be made, a senior security official says the court has a backroom that can accommodate it. The official and others stressed situational fluidity, as they have throughout the entire process. Separately, senior security officials say the upper floors of the courthouse are being cleared of all other operations and hearings. A security sweep will be conducted before members of the press are permitted into the building.
