OC Transpo did not merit a mention in the budget released Thursday by Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy.
It also boasts of its light-rail transit developments on the Hazel McCallion Line in Mississauga and Brampton, the Finch West LRT, the Eglinton LRT line between east and west Toronto, the new Ontario Line from Ontario Place to Don Mills, and subway extensions in Scarborough and North York.
“The government is working to expand this initiative to support more people using public transit to come into Toronto,” the budget said. Ottawa Centre NDP MPP Joel Harden said transit systems desperately needed provincial funding to reverse the devastating effect the COVID-19 pandemic had on ridership.Article content
“The government is putting all this money into these LRT P3s , and none of them have been built yet and all of them are over budget,” Harden said. “We can’t forget the bus systems we already have, which all do an important job.”
